DS #3, Update #3

I am really enjoying this, at the moment. Here's the latest, from Tuesday...

Some more of these delicate lines, now trying to imitate the color effect of my multi-color pencils; and the beginnings of one of the howling wolf cubs. And, though I haven't done any more work on the horse, I am feeling more confident at the thought of working on him.

Here's the drawing that I took the horse from:

In the drawing, he has no particular color (as in, bay, chestnut, gray, etc.), but in the painting he's starting to emerge as a chestnut. His face feels very sweet and gentle and soulful to me, and I hope to keep that feeling in the painting.

DS #3, Update #2, plus some more on DS #4

Some work on these Tuesday:

A little cleaning up the edge of the arch; some more delicate blue-violet lines, and edge-squiggles on the arch; more smudgy stuff for the horse (still unidentifiable). Oh, and a deeper yellow-orange in the circle.

And on the other:

A rosy curl, and the foal emerging.

First paintbrush-to-paper for DS #3

This is the one I've been putting off starting. The horse (which, since I lifted most of the transferred lines before starting to paint, has become nearly invisible) was making me anxious; as a drawing, it has such a sweet and tender feel, which I wanted to bring out, but was worried about getting it right. (The horse shows up here as just some red-brown smudges.)

Then, when an extra session of painting time got scheduled in this week, right before my appointment with  my accountant to do taxes, I was feeling very tired (from getting tax stuff ready!!!) and didn't feel up to doing any sensitive, picky work; but I've kind of used up my easy, broad, fun spaces in the first three - and didn't feel ready to tackle the horse in this one. But then I realized this has a bunch of large areas that I could relax and play with. So this is what I worked on.

I've been looking forward to working on this arch, and its what-might-be-bricks - or, the idea of bricks - and I enjoyed working on that, though this is on a different paper - Canson, rather than Arches - and it behaves quite differently, so it was tricky to get the smooth fade out at the edges; and I didn't quite manage it; but then, it becomes something else, which I'll be exploring what to do with, as I go along.

I also enjoyed working on the delicate lines.

DS #1, Update #8

And worked on this one too, today:

Today, mainly I outlined the blocky strokes coming down from the tree on the right, in bright light green, and partly filled with yellow. I think I like it! And I started doing the little howling wolf cubs.

A detail of the wolf cubs and the outlined blocky strokes:

DS #2, Update #5

 Here's today's work on this:

Some detail in the creature's tail, and some pattern in the "quilted" fin; more work on the woman; some heightened background between creature and tree; and, that golden sandy color coming up from the bottom. Which I'm not sure how I feel about, yet.

A detail (above); another detail, below.

DS #2, Update #4

 Tuesday's work on this one:

Okay - now what the heck is going on with this creature? (My sister calls him a humpback/alligator...) Now he's got one front fin that looks like a kind of quilted thing, and the other looks more like a stuffed toy. I meant that, I meant that... but hmmm. We'll see what comes of it.

I started work on the naked woman and on the dog. As with the sleeping foal in DS #4, I'm moving forward very cautiously at the moment. Also added more ripples to the bubbles.

DS #4, Update #4

 Tuesday's work on this one:

Not easy to see, but if you look closely (lower right): I've started working on the sleeping foal. I am going very cautiously on this, at the moment, not sure yet how I want it to go.
